Based in an old factory on Gadigal land, Sydney, Belvoir St Theatre is one of Australia’s most celebrated and beloved theatre companies.

Since 1984, when a group of 600 theatre-lovers came together to buy a theatre and save it from becoming an apartment block, Belvoir has been at the forefront of Australian storytelling for the stage. Each year the company presents an annual season of shows for this now-iconic corner stage. New work and new stories sit at the centre of Belvoir’s programming, alongside a mix of reinvented classics and international writing, and a foundational commitment to Indigenous stories. In short, Belvoir is about theatrical invention, an open society, and faith in humanity. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Eamon Flack and Executive Director Aaron Beach, Belvoir engages Australia’s most prominent and promising theatre-makers.

Since 2019, the David and Fee Hancock Foundation has directed support towards productions at Belvoir St Theatre each year, directed by our Artistic Director Eamon Flack and previous Artistic Director Neil Armfield. The Foundation’s support reinforces our ambitious work on and off stage, empowering cast and creatives to make and share brilliant theatre with our audiences. Every production pieces together a different script, characters, set, costumes, props, lighting, sound – the creative elements involved are countless. The costs of producing an iconic play are significant and Belvoir relies heavily on the support of visionary donors like the David and Fee Hancock Foundation to make our work possible.

As we approach Belvoir’s 40th anniversary, the Foundation has also generously contributed to our Capital Fund, ensuring that our theatre continues to evolve for years to come, with an exciting foyer renovation to be completed in mid-2024.

All of us at Belvoir are grateful to the David and Fee Hancock Foundation for helping to bring the following productions to our stage: Into the Woods, The Jungle and the Sea, The Cherry Orchard, and Things I Know To Be True. In 2024, audiences can experience the impact of the Foundation’s support towards upcoming production August: Osage County, one of the monumental plays of the 21st Century, playing at Belvoir St Theatre from 9 November – 15 December.
